Shane Maloney, Assoc. AIA

Shane was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where as a kid, was always fond of doodling on any scrap of paper he could find. Those years of pencil and paper, coupled with happening upon his first set of architectural drawings inadvertently set him on a path to pursue design as a career.

Joining the architecture school at The University of Arkansas made Shane realize that any preconceived notion he had of design could be thrown out the window; a daunting but altogether liberating moment for a student. It soon became clear that architecture is much more than the sum of its parts, and one of the most important parts of the equation were the people. Friends who fanned the creative flame, peers who collaborated on projects, and mentors who challenged your viewpoint all came together to create a community whose main goal was elevating the human experience through the built environment.

After school, Shane sought others in the profession who felt elevating community by design was an important goal. After several years working and building relationships in Northwest Arkansas, he chose to broaden his horizons and skillset and relocated to Austin, Texas. Learning from new peers in a new place cultivated a further understanding of the importance of community. 3 years in the Lone Star State made him realize that the people and the places of Northwest Arkansas felt like home, and at the first opportunity “two-stepped” back to join STOKE.

STOKE not only gave him the ability to return to the friends and family he had missed; it provided the unique intersection of people and design that Shane believes is important in the profession.

When not at work, you can find Shane walking his dog Murph, fly fishing knee deep in a river, or hanging on a patio with some friends and a cold one.
